At the end of 2015— as the American political season was ramping up, mass shootings were happening on a weekly basis, and it felt like seeing the hope in the world was all too difficult— I honestly became really frustrated.
I tweeted about being sick and tired of cynicism and negativity and how I wanted a place to share hopeful news. Hundreds of people responded saying they felt the same way. I was blown away.
That night I opened up a MailChimp account, tweeted out the subscription link, and started hunting for stories that filled me with hope.
The experience has been incredible. Thousands of people have rallied around this idea of seeking the good in the world. Hundreds of people have sent in articles, videos, and stories of the beautiful hopeful things that are happening all around us. The biggest thing we've learned as a community is this: There's no shortage of good news in the world. You just have to know where to look.
One of my favorite quotes in the world comes from Mr. Rogers when he said: "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'"
Even in the midst of the most difficult things in life, there's so much good to be found. And that's what this weekly email is about. I hope you'll join us.
